As the oil will arrive in the early days of January, it is

of the utmost importance that prompt steps shall be taken to

conserve British interests which are involved in this transaction.

We shall be glad if you will be good enough to advise us what

H. M. Government propose to do in the matter and particularly

whether the Government will take over and be responsible for the

whole consignment as and when it reaches Marseilles or as it now

exists, afloat in the a/s Ganges Maru, at the sale price,
